About Yasno

Yasno is an ingredient checker app made by Hawk Minds Ltd, a small company in Velingrad, Bulgaria. The name comes from the Bulgarian word ясно, which means “clear”. That is the whole idea: make every label clear.

Why did we build Yasno?

Ingredient labels are hard to read, and not by accident: E-numbers, chemical names, tiny print, often in a language that isn’t yours. Searching for an ingredient online mostly turns up alarmism or marketing. Many scanner apps rely on crowdsourced product databases that go out of date when a recipe changes, and some make allergen claims they can’t stand behind.

We wanted something calmer and more honest: an answer built from the label in your hand, explained in plain words, with the source for every warning one tap away.

What do we believe?

• Explain, don’t just score. A number without a reason helps nobody, so every verdict carries its reasoning.
• Don’t manufacture concern. If a label is clean, we say so, briefly.
• Say when we don’t know. “Natural flavourings” or “parfum” don’t say what’s inside, and we won’t guess.
• Be honest about limits. Yasno never says a product is free of an allergen or safe for you, and it is not medical advice.
• Your data is yours. No account needed, no ads, no tracking in the app, servers in the EU.

Who checks the information?

Official regulatory status comes from European Commission and US FDA data. Health explanations are researched from safety bodies such as EFSA and the EU Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety, then pass automated checks that confirm sources exist and that the wording is no more certain than the evidence. Every record is reviewed against its sources before it reaches the app, by our editor or by an AI reviewer working to our written rules, and each record notes which. Read the full methodology.

Why is there no product database?

Because the label you are holding is the most up-to-date source there is. Yasno reads it fresh every time, so a changed recipe or a different country’s version is never a problem. It also means our verdicts attach to ingredients, never to brands or companies.
